Song: A Mothers LoveMy dad would sit beside my bed, with his guitar in hand
And he’d sing me to sleep each night, until I’d hit dream land.
And in his songs he’d always sing of an angel with long dark hair.
And with tears caught in his throat, he’d wish that she were there.
He’d sing, “I’m sorry you never knew her, even though you’ve got her eyes.”
Then he’d tell me that she loved me and kiss me goodnight.
And then one night he came and said, “I’m gonna sing a song to you…
…all about a mother’s love, a love that is so true”
It all started on a summer night with a couple expecting a child
the mother’s eyes were warm and bright, the father couldn’t help but smile.
A baby is just what they wanted so much, they tried for so very long
And they both were overjoyed, until something went wrong.
The doctor said it wasn’t right, the child shouldn’t be born
The mother put up such a fight, the father’s feelings were torn.
He asked her, “Are you sure it’s worth it? You’re going through so much.”
But she said, “I love this child” and that was enough.
Then on the day the baby came the mother was just too weak
She looked into her husband’s eyes and these were the last words she’d speak,
“Make sure you tell her how much I love her each night before she sleeps.
And I’ll watch down from the heavens on my baby.”
My dad he told me on that night why my mother was never around
But I felt her close that night, she must have been looking down.
I told him I’m sorry that she’s not here now, but I know that she’s alright
